How to Create the Ultimate Neutral Winter Capsule Wardrobe
I love a good capsule wardrobe. As someone who has neutral colors in my own closet, choosing pieces to wear during the winter months comes easily. When choosing pieces, a classic style will take you very far. I love classic pieces that will last for years. I don’t know that I’d call my sweater collection a “capsule wardrobe” because I have a lot of sweaters, but it’s cold half the year here, and I live in sweaters during the colder months. But having fewer pieces will help you have a more organized closet, and will definitely make it easier to get dressed in the morning. Here’s my practical, everyday wear winter capsule wardrobe.
How to Create the Ultimate Neutral Winter Capsule Wardrobe
This time of year is always a challenge for me. I did not grow up with freezing cold temps and struggle with getting dressed or leaving the house. But I love sweaters and it’s the perfect time to wear them. When creating your own capsule wardrobe, sticking with a mostly neutral color palette makes it easier to mix and match pieces. I tend to avoid trendy pieces for classic ones that I won’t tire of. Once you figure out your personal style which can be challenging once you become a mom, a good starting point is always a great coat and some good quality denim. Consider what you wear. I’m not wearing knee-high boots anymore and want pieces that are easy to wear when I’m with my kids.
How to create a capsule wardrobe
There are a few easy steps to make a capsule wardrobe concept work for you. When going through your clothes, consider the pieces you’ve worn over the last year. One guideline I like to follow is keeping pieces I like enough to pack for a trip. Think of Marie Kondo and keep the pieces that spark joy. If you’re not excited to wear it, it’s time to sell or donate. If you’re holding on to a sweater that you haven’t worn in years, let it go. Then see where the holes are – what’s missing? Do you have basic sweaters in a few colors that you can mix and match? A classic black coat? A pair of jeans that work well with boots? Warm-weather accessories?
