What I’m Getting My Kids for Christmas
At 4 and 6 years old, my girls love a lot of the same things. My son is 1 and-a-half and lives for vehicles, so he couldn’t have been easier. The girls are always playing pretend or coloring. I did things differently this year and opted for small, affordable toys that I knew they’d be really excited about. I bought toys I never thought I’d buy (here’s looking at you, robot hamster and hatchimals). Here’s what I’m getting my kids for Christmas this year.
What I’m Getting My Kids for Christmas
By the time my oldest was old enough to be excited about Christmas, we were in 7 months into her cancer treatment during a global pandemic. Life was so lonely, and I did what I could to make things fun, and overcompensated with big gifts. Christmas morning of 2020, she came downstairs to a big play house, balance beam, food stand, and lots of wrapped gifts. In the years that followed, I toned it down but still continued with at least one physically large or expensive ($100-$200) gift.
The thing is, we now have all the big toys – the play house, climbers, and play kitchen. A large toy was the last thing we needed in our home, so I went small and simple this year, and shopped sales, too. I got some deals, and invested in a few quality toys, like the Melissa and Doug vending machine. But I also bought a lot of tiny things that I know they’ll love.
My girls love building forts, playing with play food, and packing bags full of tiny things. They also love tiny things. Since they play together most of the time and tend to love all the same toys, I ended up buying two of most toys. I will choose 3 of the smaller gifts to give as Santa gifts, and the rest will be from us.
