best digital cameras for kids

My kids love to create and explore, and I love anything that keeps them happy and busy. A great digital camera allows children to capture the world around them from their own perspective. My kids have been playing with their new Kidamento cameras the last few weeks and have had so much fun taking photos and recording videos. These cameras give my kids the technology that they crave, without the addition of built-in games, so it’s all purely creative. We are screen-free during the school week, so they’ve been running around taking photos and making videos after school, and as someone who loves photography, I love that my kids love it, too. I am so excited to partner with Kidamento to share the best digital cameras for kids. I was able to test 3 of their cameras, which are all great options for younger children.

The Best Digital Cameras for Kids in 2024

There was a cheap Amazon camera that I had to purchase 3 separate times since they kept breaking on us. My daughter loved using this camera, but I ended up spending more on 3 of these cheap cameras than one Kidamento camera. She loved taking photos with it, but I quickly realized she spent most of the time playing the games that were included on the camera. So it was basically a mini gaming device, which was not the point of a camera. And it kept breaking on us. I wanted something with a screen that was fun, durable, and easy to use, and zero games.

Enter Kidamento. The brand makes the best cameras for younger children. They have special effects like fun frames, stickers, filters without addictive games. Kidamento cameras are durable and come backed by a 1 year warranty.

If you’re looking for a first camera for your child, and want something with great image quality that’s perfect for small hands, Kidamento is it. They make the best kids cameras! We were able to test Model C, Model K, and Model P. If you have a young photographer, I’m going to break each one down for you so you can figure out which model is best for you. Here are the best digital cameras for kids from Kidamento.

Kidamento Model P: The Best Instant Camera

The Model P takes photo and video, all in color, and has a selfie mode that my kids love. Print over 100 photos with just one charge, and store thousands of photos and hours of video for endless fun. And I have to call out the adorable Panda design that my kids love.

Who It’s For:

Designed for children aged 5 and up the Model P combines a fun and cute design with practical features that make photography accessible and fun for young users. It’s a great choice for kids who love polaroids, and fun for adults, too. I should mention that my newly 4 year-old loves this camera and didn’t have any issues using it!

Why We Love It:

The Model P is the perfect camera and one of my my top picks for kids who love polaroid cameras. And it’s great for parents who don’t want their kids to print photos that cost $1 each. This camera instant prints feature prints black-and-white pictures using ink-free thermal printing technology. And these photos print on affordable paper rolls, with each printing up to 70 pictures. The refill packs contain 3 paper rolls and 2 sticker rolls, and cost about 5 cents per photos which is a considerable savings. It’s easy enough to refill – my kids can even do it.

The camera also comes with an SD card slot, allowing for expandable storage. While some kid’s cameras have limited internal memory, the Model P gives users the option to store a large number of photos and videos, meaning children can snap away without worrying about running out of space.

How to Charge It:

Unlike cameras that run on disposable batteries, the Kidamento Model P comes equipped with a rechargeable battery. This is not only eco-friendly but also saves parents the trouble of constantly replacing batteries. The camera charges via USB and can hold a charge for several hours of continuous use. This camera has the best battery life of the 3 cameras, offering up to 2 additional hours of shooting on a single charge.

Memory and Storage:

The Model P comes with a 32GB memory card, a USB charging cord, and takes up to 9MP* digital photos and 1080p videos, all in full color. You can print over 100 pictures or store hundreds of digital images and videos with just one charge.

Kidamento Model K: The Best Entry Level Camera for Kids

The Kidamento Model K is designed for younger children who are new to cameras. Its design and durability make it the perfect first camera for kids, and it’s really cute, too. The child-friendly interface makes it especially easy to use, and the basic photo and video capabilities are perfect for younger children. It has the largest screen and the best photo quality of the 3 cameras, and a touchscreen which makes it even more fun and easy to use. If photo printing isn’t a priority for you, I would recommend the Model K.

Who It’s For:

It’s designed for kids ages 3-9.

Why We Love It:

The Model K comes in two darling designs, a sloth and cat, which happen to be two of our favorite animals. The photo quality is fantastic, and it takes video, too. The video feature might be my kids’ favorite, and they absolutely love the selfie feature. It has a large touchscreen and only a few buttons, so it couldn’t be easier to use. It features simple controls that allow kids to switch between taking photos, recording videos, and playing games. A huge bonus of this camera is that the lanyard doubles as a charging cable.

The pre-installed 32GB memory card can store thousands of pictures and hundreds of hours of video. The soft silicone case provides extra grip and protection from accidental drops, which have happened numerous times over here.

How to Charge It:

Memory and Storage:

Kidamento Model C: The Most Affordable for the Youngest Users

The Model C is the most compact of the 3 Kidamento cameras that we have, so it’s the ideal choice if you’re looking for something small. It’s the perfect first time camera and a good choice for younger kids. It’s a great value with the lowest price point of the 3 cameras, and features simple controls that make it the easiest to use.

Designed for kids ages 3-7.

Still Unsure: Let’s Break Down the Best Digital Cameras for Kids

You can’t go wrong with any of these 3 Kidamento cameras. They are all great cameras, and my 4 and 6 year old love all 3 models. But if you’re still not sure which one to buy, I’m going to share a few things that might make your decision easier.

If you’re looking for durability: The Model C and K Cameras both offer a silicone case, making them especially durable for younger kids.

If you want a camera that instant prints: The Model P prints affordable (5 cents per print) photos without using ink! So if you’re looking for a camera that prints super-affordable instant photos, this is it.

Screen size breakdown: The Model K has the largest screen, followed by the Model P, and the Model C comes in with the smallest screen.

Charging: Both models C and K have charging cords built into the lanyard, while the Model P uses a USB. The USB cord isn’t an inconvenience since it’s what most of us are used to, but the built in cords are definitely a perk that make charging even easier.
