You Have to Try These 5 Minute Oreo Rice Krispie Treats
A few weeks ago, my friend made some rice krispie treats for our lemonade stand, and they were a huge hit. So good that I maybe had a few for lunch that day. My mother in-law wanted to stop by for a few pieces the next day, but we had finished them off. My friend shared her classic recipe with me, and it what I expected since she didn’t even use her stove. I wanted to make them, but thought it would be fun to mix things up, so I added oreos for a fun twist. These oreo rice krispie treats take just 5 minutes. No stove, no oven, and barely any prep. They couldn’t be easier to make and are delicious – they’re perfect for entertaining or as a special treat for the family. You can see the full recipe below.
How to Make Oreo Rice Krispie Treats in 5 Minutes
I’ve baked a few things over the years And I’ve even baked successfully, but as much as I want to be one, I’m not really a baker. Baking is just so involved and you have to be so exact. The thing is, I want to be a fun mom, and my kids love this stuff. And I want (ok, need) something that requires less than 10 minutes of effort. Everyone loves homemade rice krispie treats, right? Well, the oreo version is even better. My kids loved my friend’s classic rice krispie treat recipe, so I decided to throw small pieces of their favorite cookies into the mix. And just wow. Everyone loved this no bake recipe.
Easy dessert recipes are my favorite. And this delicious dessert couldn’t be better. It’s made in the microwave, and takes just a few minutes. It really couldn’t be easier since you don’t even need a stove or oven for this one. This is a new favorite treat for our family.
What you need
Crispy rice cereal
18 ounces of Marshmallows (about 1.5 bags)
1 dozen Oreos – Regular oreos are fine but I like Back to Nature double creme sandwich cookies
Butter
Rectangular or square pan
Silicone spatula or spoon
A dash of vanilla extract
How to Make It
Melt butter and 1 package (about 6 cups of marshmallows) into a large bowl. You can use large or mini marshmallows – I actually used both. Add in a few extra marshmallows if you want extra gooey marshmallow treats. Microwave for 3 minutes, and stir.
Grease a baking pan with cooking spray or butter. I used butter.
Mix the gooey marshmallows and melted butter with the silicone spatula. Add crushed oreos and cereal to the mixture, and pour over container. I used a little less than one box of cereal since my kids are little and I didn’t want these to be too large. Break chunks of oreo cookies, and mix them into the melted marshmallow mixture.
Let it sit at room temperature for 20-30 minutes, and enjoy.
Store in an airtight container.
You could really have fun with this no bake treat. There are so many flavors of Oreos, and lots of options that might be ideal for those of you looking for gluten free or more natural ingredients. Whole Foods even has golden oreos (or an alternative).
Last night was my first time making this, and it was such a huge hit with the whole family. The end result couldn’t have been more delicious.
