As a mom to 3 kids, I have learned a thing or two about toys and toy brands. And when it comes to finding toys that your children will love for years, Melissa & Doug makes some of the best. Many of their toys are designed to grow with your children and promote open-ended play. And they offer different ways to play as your children grow. There are toys in this post we’ve owned for 5+ years that my kids still love and use all the time. Here are some of the best Melissa and Doug toys that your kids will love and continue to play with over the years.
This post was not written in partnership with Melissa & Doug. It’s just a brand I love, and I wanted to share my favorite toys with you. I do, however, receive affiliate commission when you use my links, at no cost to you.
The Melissa and Doug Toys Your Kids Will Play With for Years
My girls are 4 and 6, and love pretend play, while my son is a toddler who loves cars and buttons. Melissa & Doug has been a favorite of ours over the years. The company uses durable, non-toxic materials, with many toys made from solid wood and safe, long-lasting finishes. Their commitment to quality ensures that the toys can withstand the wear and tear of daily play, making them a great choice for families with multiple children. I love open-ended toys that allow children to play creatively. Unlike many trendy toys that quickly lose their appeal, these toys have a classic aesthetic that never goes out of style. The brand is focused on simplicity, which I love.
They make some of our favorite on-the-go toys. And since I don’t let my kids use screens when we go out (no judgment – we are all doing what works for us!) I love toys that keep them quiet and busy.
If you buy one toy in this post, let this be it. My oldest who is 6 has loved this toy since she was a year old. It's one of those magic toddler toys that all ages love. It's fun and promotes fine motor skills, too.

This is one of the 3 toys in this post that we don't own, but it's a patisserie version of larger ice cream counter, and looks like lots of fun.

This wooden ice cream shop is a larger version of the smaller original one above. I would recommend getting the smaller ice cream shop and larger patisserie. We have both ice cream shops – one in the playroom and one in the family room – and they are played with almost daily.

Loud, musical toys aren't usually my favorite but this one is pretty great. I bought it for my son who is 16 months and he loves it. But his older sisters use it when they pretend they're driving, so it's been a hit with all 3.

When my son was around 1, I realized that he seemed interested in cars, but didn't have any. So I bought this set of wooden cars and he loves them.

We've had this one for years and it's still a hit.

Another fun pretend play set my kids still love. Imaginative play is so great for little kids, so I love any toy that encourages that.

I just bought both of these to take on the go since my kids love the other ice cream and cookie sets, and they love them!

These are both so cute. If your kids love play food, I'd recommend buying both. They're great for restaurants and keeping kids busy when you're on the go.

We have this version and the Christmas cookie version, too. It's one of those classic toys that all 3 of my kids seem to love.

Ok, so my kids love play food, and they love this set.

This isn't my favorite toy in this roundup but my kids did play with it for quite a while.

These are gold. My kids have been playing with them since they were a little over 2 years old. Younger toddlers will spend a good 30 minutes quietly peeling stickers off the page. My girls still love them now, and will actually play pretend with the stickers. They're great for traveling, long car trips, and restaurants.

These are so much more fun than the water wow activity books and less annoying since you don't need to add water. I brought them on a flight and they kept my girls quiet and busy.

This is one of my favorite educational toys that all of my kids loved as toddlers. I keep a few of these in the car and the rest in the play room. They're as addicting as possible bubble wrap.

This is the book version of the cards, and is really cute. I prefer the cards since they're smaller and easier to use, but my son loves this book.

I just ordered this one for my son since he loved playing with it at our friends' house. It's really cute, and great for toddlers. It probably has a shorter shelf life than the other toys, although I think my kids will use it when building cities or towns, so we'll see.

I love a classic wooden toy. This is darling wood fire truck that's very similar to the school bus.

My girls no longer play with this, but each one of my kids used it as a baby and toddler. The pieces are large enough for babies, and it's great for learning different colors, stacking, and sorting.

This is one of those toys I would think my kids would tire of quickly but they actually love them. At first, it's about putting the shapes on but as they get older, they'll play pretend with the magnetic people.

We don't own this one, but it's a souped up version of the Melissa & Doug Vroom & Zoom which all 3 of my kids love.

This is one of the cuter wooden puzzles I've seen. I love that kids can actually play with the different shapes!

I love when a toy intended for one use, like matching shapes, can be used for pretend play. These chunky puzzles are the best.
