My Home
The Little Things That Make a House a Home
Whenever fall rolls around, we begin to gravitate toward all things cozy. The leaves change, the mornings turn crisp, and things feel fresh and new. I can’t wait to break out my favorite denim, chunky knits, fall-scented candles, and make the shift from iced coffee to a warm latte. It’s also the time of year when I start doing little things to get my house ready for cozy season. It gets so cold here in Chicago, and I try to shift my mindset to the things that keep me warm. Being inside by a cozy fire, making warm seasonal meals, and making the rooms in my home feel more homey. I am so excited to once again partner with Wayfair to share some of my favorite pieces, and the things that I’ve added to our house that make it feel like home.
The Little Things That Make a House a Home
We’ve been in our house for over 2 years now, and each year, it feels more and more like home. Home is, for me, a feeling. It’s the people, the little comforts, and all the small things that together, feel like you. As someone who has moved a lot over the last decade or so (a handful of apartments and 2 houses) I’ve learned that small changes can make a big impact to a home. And it is, for me, all the little things that make my house feel that way.
I recently visited Wayfair’s 100,000 sq. foot store just outside of Chicago, and it was an experience. It was truly incredible, and I got so much inspiration for our upcoming bathroom renovations that start next week! You can shop all the same things online, but if you’re local, I highly recommend a visit.
Just a few weeks ago, I decided to plant some fall planters, and ordered new doormat for the house. Adding more photo frames, small accents, favorite books, and pieces of furniture I love makes whatever house or apartment I’m in feel like the place I want to be. I’ve always loved this house, but planters and a new doormat really do make a difference.

My girls ended up moving in together, and I made a few edits to my oldest daughter’s room turned guest room. It felt pretty empty when she took all her stuff out. The dresser is one of my most-loved pieces in our home. It’s gorgeous, but needed a little something on it for the room to feel more inviting. It’s amazing what a new lamp and picture frame can do to a space.

My girls’ room is probably my favorite room in our house. And it felt complete once I added this beautiful rug and mirror. They made such a difference, adding warmth and texture to an already beautiful space.

Our family room has been a labor of love, and there are lots of little moments that make this room one of my favorite places to cozy up with my family, or to sit and work. I love displaying family photos, and adding different textures and details to a room. And this room has it all. Photos of our family, and lots of textures and pieces that bring life to this space. One of the things I love most is the custom slipcover that I had made with fabric that yes – you guessed it – can also be purchased at Wayfair. We will push the ottoman up against a couch and all lay together for movie nights. It’s one of those things I hope my kids never forget.
