We are coming up on three years in our home, and I’m feeling that itch to move again. I’ve moved seven times in the last fourteen years, and made each space feel like home. When decorating my home, I prefer neutral color palettes for larger pieces, and then bring in some color and texture with the right accents. The key is choosing pieces that spark joy, remind you of special moments, or simply make you feel at home. Most people can’t afford to hire interior designers, but decor doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s not about the best kitchen trends or having the perfect living space. Add in objects like trays, light fixtures, and ginger jars to fill shelves and tabletops. Where to Start

When decorating any room, figure out a focal point, like a pice of furniture, art, or mirror, and work your way around it. Focus on a simple solution, like small design details that make a big impact. I always like to find at least one piece from a local antique shop or thrift store, and have at least one vintage piece of furniture in most rooms in my home. Our dining table, and most of our dressers are antique, and I prefer that to my home looking like a store catalog.

For small rooms, consider a fresh coat of paint, stick to a color scheme, and add the right pieces. Picture frames, throw pillows, vases, and meaningful objects, are the best way to make a house feel like home. I try not to get caught up in interior design trends, and instead, choose pieces I love.
