I haven’t been able to think about fall trends until this week. But when I took my dog outside last night, there was a slight chill in the air, and I got a little excited for a new season and my fall wardrobe. The kids are back to school and it feels like a fresh start. Halloween decor is popping up everywhere and I’m not quite ready, but also love the fall season. I just wish it didn’t go from summer to the most perfect time of year for what feels like a few weeks and then freezing winter. When it comes to fall pieces, I have a classic style and usually avoid the latest fall fashion trends, unless they’re timeless. So if you have a timeless personal style similar to mine, you’re going to love this post.

Fall Fashion: The Best Styles and Trends for 2024

Last fall, I was postpartum and most of my clothes didn’t fit. This is my first fall post-reduction after losing the baby weight, and I am actually excited to get dressed and up my fashion game a little bit.  So I wanted to put together a list of some essential pieces for fall, from wide-leg jeans and ballet flats to cozy knits and a great trench coat. Each piece in this post is a wardrobe staple you’ll wear for years, most in classic colors that work together. So if you’re looking for fall items to add to your closet, you’ve come to the right place. I’ll share a fall capsule wardrobe soon, but just wanted to put together a roundup with some new fall items that i’m loving right now.

Here’s What I’m Excited to Wear This Fall

Denim

The summer months are all about dresses for me, but once fall rolls around, I am so ready to wear denim again. I have never loved skinny jeans, and was so thrilled when straight leg jeans made a big comeback. I’ll share my favorite wide leg and straight leg denim below.

Sweaters and Sweater Jackets

Sweaters? For fall? Groundbreaking. But I’m really excited for sweaters and sweater jackets over an oversized t-shirt. I brought one of my favorite sweater jackets to London and Paris when I saw Taylor Swift, and just love how they add a stylish layer and keep me warm during the cooler months. When it’s chilly but not too cold, I love draping a sweater jacket over my shoulders – it looks so chic.

Deeper Tones and Neutrals

I love deeper tones in the fall, and of course, my neutrals. Most of my fall wardrobe is black, white, camel, grey, and navy blue. But I love a touch of olive green and even a little red in the fall. I’ve always gravitated toward neutrals but love wearing dresses with a little color in the summer months, and love dark florals for fall.

Fall Shoes

I love loafers and ballet flats, and fall is the perfect time to wear them.

Sweats and Loungewear

I took a break from sweats over the summer since it was so warm, and only wore leggings 2 or 3 times the entire season. I was really committed to getting dressed. But – I am so excited to slip back into my favorite Varley sweatsuits this season.
