The Ultimate Family Beach Vacation Packing List
We are going on a beach vacation for spring break (just a few weeks late) and I’m starting to figure out what to pack. I usually make a list in my cell phone a few weeks before leaving, and add things as I go. I’m packing for a family of 5, although my husband packs himself. I like to plan the kids outfits and essentials – it’s fun. for me. So from your beach bag to personal items and outfits, here’s your next beach vacation packing list to help make your trip a breeze.
The Ultimate Family Beach Vacation Packing List
Planning a family beach vacation can be both exciting and overwhelming. It’s like “yay, a beach trip!” and also “OMG I need to pack outfits and swimsuits and enough sunscreen and swim diapers for the baby.” And then there’s all the essentials items for travel that you have to bring on top of that. From travel car seats and strollers to a white noise machine and sleep blankets, there’s so much to consider when traveling with kids. To help alleviate the stress of packing, I’ve compiled the ultimate family beach vacation packing list, covering everything you need to make your beach trip a success.
My beach vacation checklist:
Clothing
When packing clothing for a beach trip, it’s essential to strike a balance between comfort, style, and practicality. Opt for lightweight and breathable fabrics like cotton or linen to keep cool under the sun’s heat. Pack a variety of outfits suitable for both beach activities and casual outings, including shorts, T-shirts, poplin sundresses, and swimsuit cover-ups. Consider the length of your stay and the activities planned, packing enough outfits for each day, along with a few extras for unexpected changes in weather or spills. Don’t forget essential accessories like hats, sunglasses, and flip-flops to complete your beach look while providing additional protection from the elements.
Dresses:
(1 per day, less if doing laundry): I love packing light and easy-to-wear summer dresses and usually bring one per day, and have a mix of dresses that work for day or evening. I’ll share a few favorites that I’m bringing on our beach trip.
Extra layer:
Bring a light sweater or jacket, and a light sweatshirt in case the temps drop.
Tank tops:
I like to bring a few tank tops to pear with shorts and linen pants.
Linen pants:
There’s nothing more chic than a linen pant. Pack something timeless that goes with everything, like a solid black, white, or beige.
Pair of shorts:
I always love denim shorts, or a nice linen short that you can dress up or down.
Swimsuits:
Pack 2-3 swimsuits, enough to have 1 to wear while one dries. Most of my swimsuits are Summersalt, and I just ordered a few new ones for the trip.
Cover ups:
Cover-ups are easy to wear as a dress, to the beach, or when you’re hanging out by the pool.
Sandals:
I like to bring at least 2 pair so I can mix things up, but I love sandals, so this is always a favorite accessory for me.
Toiletries
A travel makeup bag and toiletries are essential for maintaining your beauty routine on the go. Opt for a compact bag with compartments to organize cosmetics efficiently. Pack versatile makeup items like a tinted moisturizer, mascara, and lipstick to achieve a polished look with minimal effort. Include travel-sized versions of skincare essentials such as cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen to keep your skin healthy and protected. Don’t forget toiletries like toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in TSA-approved sizes. With a well-curated makeup bag and toiletries kit, you’ll feel refreshed and confident throughout your travels.
Toiletry bag:
A toiletry bag is a convenient and portable organizer designed to store and transport personal hygiene items during travel.
Beauty essentials:
Pack your favorite makeup, lip balm, and anything else you use every day.

Beach Vacation Packing List: What to Pack for the Kids
Packing for kids for a beach trip requires careful consideration to ensure they stay safe, comfortable, and entertained. Start with sunscreen to protect their delicate skin, along with sun hats and sunglasses for added sun protection. Pack swimwear, beach towels, and water shoes for beach activities, and don’t forget rash guard swimsuits for extra UV protection. Include beach toys like buckets, shovels, and inflatable floats for endless fun in the sand and surf. Lastly, pack a change of clothes, pajamas, and any necessary medications or comfort items to ensure a stress-free and enjoyable beach experience for the whole family.
Outfits (1 or 2 per day):
Pack versatile outfits suitable for beach activities and exploring, ensuring your little ones are comfortable and stylish throughout the day.
Pajamas and wearable blankets:
Bring cozy pajamas and wearable blankets (if needed) to ensure a good night’s sleep for your little travelers, especially in cooler beachside evenings.
Rash guard swimsuits:
Provide added sun protection for your kids with rash guard swimsuits, shielding their skin from harmful UV rays while they enjoy splashing in the waves.
Cover-Ups:
Keep your children’s skin protected from the sun during breaks from swimming by dressing them in lightweight cover-ups, providing both coverage and comfort.
Sun hats:
Sunscreen is a must-have, but sun hats are a great way to keep the sun off their little faces: Shield your kids’ delicate faces from the sun’s rays with wide-brimmed sun hats, complementing their beach attire while offering essential sun protection.
Water shoes:
Ensure safety and comfort for your children as they explore rocky shorelines or sandy beaches by equipping them with sturdy water shoes, protecting their feet from sharp objects and hot sand.
Pair of sandals:
Pack a pair of sandals for each child, perfect for strolls along the boardwalk or casual outings, offering both style and practicality for your family’s beach vacation.
Beach Vacation Packing List: Beach Essentials
Packing beach essentials is crucial for a fun and relaxing beach trip. Start with sunscreen to protect against harmful UV rays, along with hats and sunglasses for added sun protection. Don’t forget beach towels, swimwear, and water shoes for comfortable seaside lounging and swimming. Bring along a beach umbrella or tent for shade, and pack a cooler with refreshing drinks and snacks to stay hydrated and energized. Remember to include beach toys, such as buckets and shovels, for the little ones to enjoy. With these essential items in tow, you’ll be well-prepared for a memorable day by the shore.
Sunscreen:
This is one of the most important items to keep in your bag. Protect your family’s skin from harmful UV rays with a high SPF sunscreen. Don’t forget to reapply every few hours, especially after swimming. I have been using Blue Lizard, which came recommended by our pediatrician and dermatologist. We have the spray, lotion, face sunscreen, and sunscreen that’s safe for babies 6 months and up, too.
Hats and sunglasses:
Shield faces and eyes from the sun’s glare with wide-brimmed hats and UV-protective sunglasses.
Swimwear:
Don’t forget swimsuits for everyone in the family, along with rash guards for added sun protection.
Water shoes:
Protect feet from hot sand, sharp shells, or rocky terrain with durable water shoes.
Beach tote:
Choose a spacious, sand-resistant beach bag to carry all your essentials.
Insulated water bottle:
I have these in different colors for every family member. And I always bring these when we travel for the kids since they’re easy for them to carry and stay cool all day.
Wet bag or plastic bag:
You’ll need this for wet bathing suits and other wet clothes.
Cooler bag:
Keep snacks, drinks, and perishable items cold and refreshing in a sturdy cooler.
Snacks:
Pack a variety of beach-friendly snacks such as fruits, granola bars, and chips to keep kids happy.
Wet Wipes and Hand Sanitizer:
Clean up sticky hands and sandy surfaces with wet wipes and hand sanitizer.
First aid kit:
A small first aid kit is one of those essential items I always have on me. Be prepared for minor cuts, scrapes, or insect bites with a compact first aid kit containing bandages, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers
Beach umbrella or tent:
Provide shade for little ones and a respite from the sun’s heat with a sturdy beach umbrella or tent.
Beach towels:
Your hotel or rental should have beach towels, but if renting a house, confirm this before you travel. Pack enough beach towels for each family member, plus extras for drying off or laying on the sand.
Travel Essentials
Family travel essentials ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey for everyone. Start with documents like tickets and any necessary documents. Bring everything that kids will need to be comfortable and for a good nights sleep. Bring entertainment such as books, games, and tablets to keep kids occupied. Don’t forget snacks and water to stay nourished and hydrated on the go. Comfort items like travel pillows and blankets can enhance the journey, along with hand sanitizer and wipes for cleanliness. Finally, consider packing a portable charger to keep devices powered up. With these essentials, your family travels will be stress-free and memorable.
Travel white noise:
This thing is tiny but powerful. I ordered one and was so impressed that I bought a second one.
Digital camera:
I like to bring my digital camera, even though it’s on the larger size. The quality just can’t be beat.
Travel crib:
A travel crib is a portable and convenient place for infants and toddlers to sleep, ideal for families looking to maintain a sense of familiarity and comfort while exploring new destinations.
Travel stroller:
A travel stroller is a compact and lightweight solution for families on the go, perfect for navigating crowded airports or exploring new destinations with ease. Its collapsible design and durable construction make it a versatile companion for effortless transportation and storage during your travels.
Carry-on bag:
I keep all our travel essentials in my tote bag, like toys snacks, and extra outfits for the kids.
Portable Power Bank:
Ensure your electronic devices stay charged with a portable power bank.
Airplane activities:
Pack toys, snacks, and an iPad to keep kids busy while you’re traveling.
