The Most Comfortable Bras of 2024 (Before and After a Reduction)
There are few things worse than a bra that isn’t comfortable. And believe me when I tell you that I know all about the struggle to find a bra that’s comfortable enough for everyday wear. I had a breast reduction and lift last fall, and went from a saggy DDDD to a C. As you can imagine, finding a comfortable wireless bra when you’re that large is not easy. I have always hated underwire bras and found some great wireless options, even as a G. Now that I’m a C, I have a lot more options. I want to share the most comfortable bras for each bra size. These are all wireless bras that are great for everyday wear. I’ll share my favorite options that had great support and full coverage for a larger bust, and the best bra I wear now as a 34 C.
The Most Comfortable Bras of 2024 Before and After a Reduction
Chances are you need a new bra, but bra shopping can be the worst. I’m here to make it easier for you. Bra shopping is not as simple as picking something that looks good. You need to consider support, comfort, and what best fits and complements your body and breasts. Choosing the right bra can make a huge difference in comfort, good support, and your confidence level. And I have the unique perspective of looking for bras for larger breasts, and now, a C cup. I’m going to share my favorite bras that I wore pre and post-reduction.
Your bra collection should complement your wardrobe, and it’s important to consider your needs before choosing the right bras for you. If you’re highly active, you might need more sports bras with high support. Alternatively, if you spend most of your day in an office, comfortable, supportive everyday bras are essential. If you wear fitted tops and tees, seamless T-shirt bras are probably ideal for you. For low-cut dresses, consider a plunge bra.
Bra Shopping
If going bra shopping sounds like a literal nightmare, there are ways around it. Getting professionally fitted is the best option, but if that’s not something you’re comfortable with, I’ll explain how to do it yourself. I would recommend ordering a bunch of bras in the size you think you are, and going one size up and down in band and cup sizes. So you’ll be placing a fairly large order, but would have the option to try them on with some of your favorite tops and dresses, and can then return the ones that don’t work.
When trying on a new bra, walk around for a little bit. Bend over, pick something up, and reach your arms up over your head. I used to always have a problem staying in my cup when I was a G, because my bras did not all fit properly. I was so much more comfortable in the bras I wasn’t always tugging at, or shifting myself back into.
Understanding Bra Sizes
The first step in finding a great bra is understanding bra sizes. Bra sizes consist of two components, the band size and the cup size. The band size is the number part of the size, such as 32, 34, 36, etc. It measures the circumference of your ribcage just under your bust. I am a 34. The cup size is the letter part of the size, like A, B, C, and so on. It represents the volume of the breasts. I am currently a C, and before my reduction was a DDDD or G.
How to Measure for your Band Size
The most comfortable bras need to fit to do their job. To get the right fit and size, I would recommend meeting with a fit expert, which you can do at Nordstrom or a store that sells lingerie. They can measure you accurately and recommend sizes and styles that suit your body shape. A poorly fitting bra can cause problems like back and shoulder pain to skin irritation and poor posture. Here are some key indicators of a good fit:
Band Fit
The band should fit snugly around your ribcage without being too tight. It should sit parallel to the ground and not ride up at the back. The band provides most of the support, so it’s crucial that it fits well.
Cup Fit
The cups should fully encase your breasts without any spillage or gaping. The center gore (the part between the cups) should lie flat against your chest. If it doesn’t, the cup size might be too small.
To determine your cup size, measure around the fullest part of your bust. Subtract your band measurement from this bust measurement. Each inch of difference corresponds to a cup size. For example, if your band size is 36 and your bust measurement is 38 inches, the difference is two inches, which typically equates to a B cup.
Straps
Straps should be adjusted to provide support without digging into your shoulders. They should not bear the weight of your breasts; instead, the band should do most of the work. If the straps leave marks on your shoulders, they might be too tight or the band size might be too big.
Being off on band or cup size will completely change how a bra fits. To measure your band size, use a soft measuring tape to measure around your ribcage, placed just under your bust. Make sure the tape is snug but not too tight and that it runs parallel to the ground. Round the measurement to the nearest whole number. If the measurement is an even number, add four inches to get your band size. If it’s an odd number, add five inches. For example, if you measure 32 inches, your band size is 36. If you measure 33 inches, your band size is 38.

Whether you love to run distances or sprints, this adjustable bra gives your boobs comfortable, held-in support so you can focus on your pace. This bra was the only one I could squeeze myself into before my reduction. And it was snug since I was a G, but I made it work.

Caring for your Bras
Proper care can extend the lifespan of your bras. Hand wash them in cold water with a gentle detergent, and avoid wringing them out. If you must use a washing machine, place bras in a lingerie bag and use the delicate cycle. Always air dry your bras, as heat can damage the elastic and fabric.
Never compromise on comfort. A bra that fits well and feels good will make you feel more confident and comfortable throughout the day. If a bra pinches, pokes, or feels too tight, it’s not the right one for you. Finding the perfect bra involves understanding your size, trying on different styles, and focusing on fit and comfort. The thought of going bra shopping probably doesn’t sound fun, but finding a great bra can change how confident you feel.
