Life Lately

Ready for the Weekend

I’m leaving town tomorrow morning and am so excited for a long weekend with Conor and our good friends (and their cutest baby and giant oversized fluffy dog). It’s been about six weeks since my last update post, so here’s a update for those of you who are into that sort of thing.

I started Barry’s Bootcamp this week and always hated running, but actually really enjoy it. Seriously–I hate running. And treadmills. But it’s so fun and is such a great workout.

There was a work trip to Charleston and we’re planning another one in Boston next month. The morning I get back, I’m heading to a lake house, which should be my last trip before our wedding.

Speaking of our wedding, the invites are almost done and we’re working on food, decor, and the wedding weekend plans wtih our planner. Alyssa Kristin is making something for one of our Paris events, I found a cocktail dress at Azeeza, and I heard from Lovely–my dress should be in next week!

This has been my go-to summer nail color. Anyone else into this trend?

I got a few questions about the romper I wore in this post. I got it c/o Avec Les Filles.

When Conor asked if I wanted to go to the Hamptons with his sister and cousin, there was only one appropriate answer to that question. So in just two weeks, we’re spending a day in NYC and before heading to Montauk.

On a more serious note, I was feeling really sad last week so I slowed down, worked from home, and treated myself to a massage. I don’t know about you, but when I’m struggling, I just need some time to myself. This is a not-so-easy to talk about subject but once I share wedding photos it will be pretty obvious that I didn’t have any relatives in Paris, so I posted something on instagram and got so many sweet messages from you guys. And now it’s out there now so I don’t have to bring it up later. It also felt really important to me to be honest because pretending everything is perfect isn’t helping anyone. Even though no one in my family ever took an interest in my blog, it’s just not something I feel comfortable getting into here.

On a very positive note, I always find my way and feel much, much better this week. There’s always a silver lining, and in this case, a few of them.

In case you missed it

I made a little appearance on my friend Jenna Kutcher’s podcast.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is officially open to the public, and you can shop my picks here. I can’t wait for this coat to arrive in grey. This jacket isn’t on sale but it has me almost kind of excited for crisp fall days.

Don’t miss the big madewell sale!

The Friends & Family Sale is happening at Williams Sonoma. Get 20% off your order! And get 25% off all things Nespresso!

Have a great weekend, guys!

  • I’m glad you are feeling better. Weddings can be a rollercoaster of ups and downs so I can imagine how you are feeling. Was Barry’s Boat Camp a lot of cardio? I too HATE running. Like so bad that when I see someone running I almost want to hate them too, joking of course. I hope you have a great weekend it sounds as though it will be lovely.

    • Thanks, Sharon! Yes, it’s a LOT of cardio. I started on the treadmill, then went to the floor (light weights, planks, abs, etc), then back to the treadmill. One class had 4 rounds and another had 5. I HATE running and treadmills but it was actually fun. Didn’t get bored at all!

  • Enjoy your trip!

Barry’s Boot Camp is the BEST! I started going 3 years ago and now attend a class almost weekly. It will change your body and fitness level – keep at it!

    • How long did it take you to see/feel a difference? I’m still really bad at running and can’t go past 7.5 but I’ll get there!

      • Kara McElroy

I would say after a month of going weekly I noticed a difference. I have to admit, I ran intervals on my own a few times so that the class wouldn’t kill me when I first started – which helped/I stopped feeling like I was about to keel over after class. But I think if you commit to it weekly, you’ll see an improvement – physically and in your endurance/speed. Just increasing your speed .1 higher than the previous week will help you improve and then eventually you’ll be able to hit numbers in all the ranges they give. You’ll get there!

        • Thanks, Kara! I really like it and hope to keep it up! A little nervous about my knees but I’ve been feeling great so far. Trying Orange Theory too!

  • Jessica

Danielle, I know it’s probably hard to share your struggles so openly, especially when people online can sometimes be unkind, but it’s such an important reminder that no one’s life is perfect and that we should all remember to take good care of ourselves during difficult times. I hope your weekend away brings some much needed lightness and joy. On a lighter note, I’m now convincing myself I need that Tahari coat (I do not–I live in Florida), and I always love white polish on other people, but on me, it reminds me of painting my nails with white-out as a kid, ha!

    • Thanks so much, Jessica. I’m really looking forward to spending time with friends. I didn’t own ANY coats when I lived in LA. Just a short north face jacket. All stocked up now.

I used to feel the same way about white polish. Give it a go! It’s fun.

It takes courage to share the hard times. And don’t forget, marriage is the act of CREATING your own family! Wishing you much happiness!

  • I’ve been reading your blog and following you on instagram for years, but I’m awful about commenting and remain a lurker most of the time. Creepy? I hope not. Anyway, I want to say that I love reading your updates and especially love how open and vulnerable you’ve made yourself in the past year or so. I think being vulnerable is such a a hard thing for most people to do; you’re so good at it and I appreciate it so much! I hope you have, and I know you will, an ABSOLUTE blast and lovely time at your wedding knowing that there are many strangers back in the States (and probably all over) who are sending you love and peace for your beautiful day. And I know I’ll be waiting with bated breath for pictures.

    • Not creepy AT ALL. But I’m glad you says hi! Thank you so so much for the kind words. You made my week with this one. x
