2016 no. 26: 2 Week Catch-up

A few weeks ago, I wrote about falling off the grid and wanting to be better about getting out of the house and making plans with friends. The past two weeks, I co-worked at Soho House and Left Coast. And I met friends for a few pool days, flywheel, a rosé tasting, lunch, and drinks at Parsons. Time to be social before it’s 20 degrees and I never want to leave my bed. Here’s what else I’ve been up to the past few weeks.

I’ve made it through most of my summer bucket list–finally headed to Big Star and Parsons, and just need to make it to a movie in the park and the beach before the season ends.

After lots of editing, I finally finished my story for the September issue Rue Magazine.

If you follow me on instagram, you know that The Everygirl now has an office here in Chicago! Can’t wait to paint everything and get some pendants in there. It’s going to be so good when we’re done with it.

Maura asked how I’d feel about starting a book club and within 10 min, there were 6 of us and we had decided on All The Light We Cannot See. Any other recommendations for us?

In case you missed the update, Conor found a crazy flight deal and booked a surprise trip to Copenhagen for my birthday!

Hope everyone enjoys their day off! I’m working out, meeting Lauren for lunch, and relaxing with the new season of Narcos.

Read When Breath Becomes Air…so good!

All the light we cannot see is such a good choice! Loved it!!

    • Already almost a week behind and excited to (finally) start reading!

I loved both All the Light We Cannot See (this was my first book club book 1 year ago!) and When Breath Becomes Air is a MUST read. Where’d You Go Bernadette is a fun read and In the Unlikely Event was good…a little nostaligic Judy Blume.

I loved All the Light We Cannot See, but the best book I’ve read this year–actually, the best book I’ve read in several years–is Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. The book follows the descendants of two African half-sisters over the course of many generations–one family remaining in Africa, the other sold into slavery in America. It’s a beautifully written, moving book. I can’t recommend it enough.

My friends and I do an article club instead of a book club (idea stolen from here: http://bit.ly/2c9WwIP) but I’ve gotten some great book recs out of it. The Storied Life of AJ Fikery by Gabrielle Zevin and The Story Hour by Thrity Umrigar were the last two books I read and LOVED that I think would be wonderful for a book club!

I have a ton of Copenhagen recommendations if you’re interested! Definitely stay in Vesterbro, get drinks at Lidkoeb (a bar with multiple floors that used to be an old chemist laboratory) and definitely make the trek out to Louisiana museum!

Basically, all the suggestions in this NYT post are spot on: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/05/travel/things-to-do-in-36-hours-in-copenhagen.html?_r=0
